Flower Dye used as dying material for Textile and Food Industry

Press Release Summary = From the ancient times, people are using herbal dye for
dying purpose. But after the invention of synthetic dye, herbal dyes are not used as
colour variation, easily available as well as cost of synthetic dye is less than
herbal dye. But synthetic dyes are made from some organic & inorganic chemicals
which has some bad effect on our skin & on our environment also. It has allergic
action on our skin & so in US, Japan Government also banned the use of these dyes.
In west Bengal a huge amount of flowers are cultivated among which 40%
flowers are not sold everyday. It is seen that these flowers are thrown
everyday to any riverside beside the market of flower or dumped which
also treated as garbage as well as environmental pollution. Not only
that, it is seen that we use flowers for devoting to God or for
decorating purposes. But after the event it is thrown or dumped. But if
these flowers can be used as floral dye for dying purposes, or for
making colourful powder used as Gulal or Abiir, we can get Wealth from
Waste as well as we can help the flower cultivator & the village below
poverty people can earn money using this technology . To fulfill this
aim, the laboratory & pilot plant work is going on at Chemical
Engineering department, Jadavpur University with collaboration with
Moromi, a NGO of West Bengal.


Press Release Body = Dyeing of textiles mean giving them a colour which is of
comparative permanence. It implies that it should not be possible to wash the colour
out easily in laundering, nor should it fade rapidly when exposed to light. In
textile coloration Industry, effluent of dyes & associated chemicals are source of
water pollution. So, due to the harmful effect of chemical dye on environment
pollution, a number of countries have issued stricter regulations so as to preserve
our environment. Not only that, this synthetic may create allergic reaction on skin
also. For this reason, now the interest of natural dyestuffs has revived in Europe,
Japan and United states. . India Govt. has also banned some use of Azo group which
has harmful effect on environment. In India, huge amounts of flower are wasted
everyday. We can use these flowers for extraction of dye & use it in textile
Industry inspite of chemical dye. These herbal dye are not toxic, not create any
allergic reaction to skin & are easily available, more economic. Some natural
sources for dye produce truly exquisite shades & for less money than purchased
chemical dye. Upto now most of natural - dyed textiles are imported from Third World
Countries and India still is a major producer of it. Flowers of Marri-gold, China
rose, Aparajita, Bougainvillea, Cineraria, Alkanet etc have been extensively used
for dyeing fabric.
